Overview

High Carbon Silicon (SiC) is a by-product of silicon metal production and is primarily used in steelmaking, foundries, and the aluminum industry. This silicon-carbon alloy is a cost-effective alternative to traditional materials like ferrosilicon and silicon metal, offering enhanced deoxidation properties and improving molten steel quality. By replacing more expensive materials, it allows manufacturers to reduce costs and improve product quality.

Advantages and Features:

  • Improved Steel Quality: High Carbon Silicon enhances steel quality by optimizing the deoxidation process and improving the purity of molten steel.

  • Cost Reduction: As a cost-effective alternative, it can replace ferrosilicon and other materials, significantly reducing steelmaking costs by up to 30%.

  • Slag Collection: Helps in quickly clumping oxides during steel production, making the steel purer and improving its density and hardness.

  • Versatile Use: It is widely used for dephosphorization, decapacitation, and heating in the steelmaking process.

  • Faster Deoxidation: High Carbon Silicon reacts quickly with oxygen, making it an efficient deoxidizer in the steelmaking and foundry industries.

Applications:

  • Steelmaking: Used as a deoxidizer and to improve the quality and hardness of steel, while also reducing alloy usage.

  • Foundries & Casting: Improves the formation of graphite lattices and spheroidal graphite, enhancing casting quality and reducing defects.

  • Non-Ferrous Alloy Production: Used to enhance the properties of aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous alloys.

  • Construction: In concrete production, used as an aggregate for improved material properties.

Production Process:

  1. Smelting: High Carbon Silicon is produced by melting silicon metal with raw materials like silicon ore and carbon sources in a furnace.

  2. Slag Separation: The byproduct is then separated from the molten metal to form the slag.

  3. Cooling & Sorting: After cooling, the material is sorted and screened according to size and purity.

  4. Quality Testing: Every batch undergoes extensive testing to ensure it meets the desired chemical composition and physical properties.
