Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an alloy of iron and silicon, used mainly in steelmaking as a deoxidising and alloying component.
The best quality ferrosilicon 75 is produced in an electric arc furnace by reducing silica with coke in the presence of iron (usually obtained from iron scrap or iron ore). Ferrosilicon is usually in the form of shiny metallic grey lumps, but is also available as pre-formed briquettes.
